Search Westchester County Inmate Records

Westchester County inmate records start with the county Department of Correction lookup for people held in local custody. A Westchester County jail roster search can confirm many current jail residents, but the county also warns that some people do not display online for security or inmate-type reasons. To look up Westchester County inmates accurately, use the roster first, then use the jail information line, Central Booking, FOIL, VINE, DOCCS, BOP, or ICE when the person is outside the local jail system.

Westchester County Jail Roster Scope

The local roster is tied to the Westchester County Department of Correction, not a sheriff-run jail. The Department operates the Grasslands Campus in Valhalla and is headed by Commissioner Joseph K. Spano. Its Westchester Inmate Lookup page sends users to the Westchester Inmate Public form for people in county DOC custody. That local custody group includes people with Westchester County criminal matters pending and people serving local terms that belong in the Jail Division or Penitentiary Division.

The roster is not a statewide prison search. Sing Sing, Bedford Hills, and Taconic are New York State DOCCS prisons in Westchester County, and sentenced state-prison residents are searched through DOCCS incarcerated lookup. Federal custody is checked through the BOP inmate locator, while immigration custody is checked through ICE Online Detainee Locator. New York VINE adds custody notifications, but it does not replace the Westchester County inmate records system.

The official lookup form captured in the manifest is the best visual match for Westchester County inmate records. The source page is the Westchester Inmate Public form.

Westchester County inmate records public roster form

The form shows why a name search can be narrow or broad: users can combine last name, first name, birth date, age, search type, and aliases before using phone or FOIL fallbacks.

Use the Westchester County Inmate Roster

The Westchester Inmate Public form is sparse, but it has useful controls. Last name is the main starting point. First name, birth date, and age help with common names. The search type matters because Soundex can catch spelling variants, Partial can help when a name is incomplete, and Exact is best when the spelling is known. The alias option is important when a person may have used another name during booking or a prior court case.

  1. Open the county inmate lookup page or go directly to the Westchester Inmate Public form.
  2. Enter the last name first. Add first name, birth date, or age if the result set is too broad.
  3. Choose Soundex, Partial, or Exact based on how sure the spelling is.
  4. Check the alias option when the person may be booked or known under another name.
  5. If no result appears, call the Westchester County DOC information line because the county says some people do not display online.

The form also carries a strong commercial-use warning. It says the site may not be copied, indexed by software robots, used for commercial purposes, or distributed by users. That warning should be treated as part of the access rule for Westchester County inmate records, not as a small footer note.

Westchester County Roster Search Fields

The search-field inventory below comes from the Westchester Inmate Public form reviewed in the research file. The county did not show a login or fee on the inspected form. It also did not publish a roster refresh rate or a released-inmate retention period in the captured public text.

Searches can fail for reasons that are not user error. The county FAQ says the lookup is for people in Westchester County DOC custody, yet not all persons are displayed due to security reasons or the type of inmate. That is why the phone line remains part of the normal lookup chain.

Westchester County Inmate Record Fields

The public capture did not confirm a full inmate profile screen. The official FAQ does confirm that the Department can provide bail status and amount, arresting agency, and visiting information by phone. The search form confirms name, birth date, age, and alias search keys. Fields not confirmed in official public text should not be assumed.

For charge language, keep the jail record separate from the court record. Central Booking can provide charges on the commitment for bail purposes, while formal court charges may later change after prosecutor review. Court filings after a booking are covered on the Westchester County court records after jail arrest page.

Westchester County Inmate Records Fallbacks

The full access chain matters in Westchester County because the roster is useful but not complete. Start online. If the person is missing, call general information at (914) 231-1000. For bail and commitment details, call Central Booking at (914) 231-1020. Central Booking can supply the JID number, court name, court docket number, charges on the commitment, and cash bail amount needed before a phone or internet credit-card bail payment.

There is no verified Westchester County DOC or sheriff mobile app with an inmate lookup, warrant search, or mugshot gallery in the research file. Use the county website, phone directory, VINE, and FOIL instead of looking for an app-only roster.

In-person access is also part of the fallback chain, but it is not a substitute for calling ahead. The visitor destination for jail business is 10 Woods Road in Valhalla on the Grasslands Campus. For bail posting, the county instructs visitors to park in the Grasslands Road visitor lot, walk to the Post 1 entrance gate, check in with the correction officer, and bring valid government-issued photo ID with a current address. Only one person may enter the jail to post bail.

County, State, and Federal Inmates

Westchester County has one county-run jail system and three state prisons. The county roster is for Westchester County DOC custody. DOCCS is for sentenced state prisoners. BOP is for federal inmates from 1982 to the present. ICE ODLS is for immigration detention and requires either an A-number path or a biographical search with name, country of birth, and birth date.

Custody TrackWhere to LookTypical Record Use
Pretrial or local sentenceWestchester County jail rosterCurrent local custody and jail-side information.
State prison sentenceNew York DOCCS locatorDIN, NYSID, state facility, sentence details where available.
Federal custodyBOP by-name locatorFederal sentenced or BOP-held people.
Immigration detentionICE detainee locatorICE custody, not county booking details.

The state-prison distinction is not theoretical in Westchester. Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining holds sentenced males. Bedford Hills and Taconic in Bedford Hills hold sentenced female state-prison populations. A person arrested in Westchester County may start in the county jail, then later move to DOCCS after a state-prison sentence.

VINE fits between these systems as a notification layer. It can alert a registered person to custody-status changes, but it does not show the same fields as a jail roster, DOCCS profile, BOP locator, or ICE detainee search. Use it for status alerts, then confirm record details with the correct custody agency.

Westchester County Jail Facilities

The main local contact for Westchester County inmate records is the Department of Correction at the Grasslands Campus. The three other facilities in the county are state prisons, so their residents are not searched through the county jail roster.

Westchester County Booking Basics

Westchester County does not publish a complete booking timeline, but the research shows the main custody path. A police agency or court initiates custody. The person may be brought to the Department of Correction in Valhalla after arrest or court commitment. Central Booking then becomes the key unit for JID, court, docket, commitment charge, and bail amount information.

Intake can include identification, property handling, medical screening, mental-health review, and housing assignment. WCDOC program materials say new admissions may be assessed by a CASAC counselor for substance-use medication assisted treatment, and established MAT may continue once verified. Property may be released through a "Turn Over To" form, but currency and commissary balances cannot be transferred that way.

JID
Jail identification number used by Westchester Central Booking for bail processing.
Commitment
Court paperwork authorizing local jail custody.
Hold
